How a State Life claim is paid: death and maturity claims, step by step
A policy matters most on the day it pays. Here is how a State Life claim works, taken from State Life's own published process, so that your family knows what to do and what to keep ready. As your advisors, we help with every step.
In short
- Death claim: a family member informs State Life, with a copy of the death certificate and their own CNIC.
- State Life sends the claim forms to the nominee within 7 days.
- Maturity: State Life writes to you about a month before the plan ends; you return the documents with your bank details.
- Keep the policy document, CNICs and nominee details where your family can find them.
If a policyholder dies: the death claim
- Inform State Life: a family member gives State Life notice of the death, with a copy of the death certificate and a copy of their own valid CNIC. We can do this with you.
- Receive the forms: State Life's claims department sends the claim forms to the nominee within 7 days.
- Complete the forms: Form A (claimant's statement), Form B (medical attendant's certificate), Form C (identification of the deceased) and Form D (employer's certificate), attested by a gazetted officer or a State Life manager.
- Submit them with the documents: the original policy document; the death certificate from a union council, municipal or cantonment body, or a government, semi-government, railway or trust hospital; and attested copies of the CNICs of the deceased and the claimant.
- Payment: State Life examines the claim and pays the nominee.
Who receives the money
If the policy names a nominee, State Life settles the claim in the nominee's favour. A child can be named as nominee, with an adult appointed to receive the money on their behalf until the child turns 18. If no nominee is named, the family may have to prove who the legal heirs are, which takes longer, so keep your nomination up to date.
When the plan ends: the maturity claim
About a month before your policy matures, State Life writes to you. Return that letter with a copy of your valid CNIC, the original policy document and your bank account details, plus a Zakat declaration form (CZ-50) if State Life asks for one. The payment is the sum assured plus all bonuses, and, on plans that qualify, a terminal bonus for premiums paid beyond the tenth year.
Surrenders and loans are not claims
Ending a policy early (a surrender) pays its cash value, available once 2 years' premiums have been paid. It ends the cover, and in the early years it can return less than you paid. A policy loan of up to 80% of the surrender value keeps the policy running instead. See what life insurance is and how it works.
Make it easy for your family
- Keep the policy document safe, and tell your nominee where it is.
- Keep your nominee's name and details up to date.
- Answer every health and personal question on the proposal form honestly. A claim can be refused if important facts were hidden.
- Keep premiums paid: a lapsed policy may not pay out.
- Save State Life's helpline, 051-111-777-542, and our WhatsApp number. We help families file claims.

Questions people ask
- How long does a State Life death claim take?
- State Life sends the claim forms within 7 days of being told about the death. After that, it depends on how quickly the forms and documents are complete; missing paperwork is the most common cause of delay.
- Can a claim be refused?
- Yes, for example if the policy had lapsed or if important facts were hidden on the proposal form. Paying on time and answering honestly are the best protection.
- Do we need an agent to make a claim?
- No. The family can deal with State Life directly. An advisor makes it easier: we help fill in the forms, collect the documents and follow the claim up.
- Who can attest the claim forms?
- A gazetted officer or a State Life manager, according to State Life's published process.
